Levulan Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is used to treat moderate to severe acne, sebaceous hyperplasia (oily bumps on the skin), precancerous skin lesions, and improve wrinkles, pores, and skin textures. Levulan treatment inactivates the bacteria that trigger acne, exfoliates the skin to unclog pores, and reduces sebaceous (oil-producing) gland activity in the skin.

The process involves applying Levulan to the skin, waiting a period of one to two hours in the office, then activating it with light. It is crucial for patients to avoid sun exposure after treatment. There will generally be a little bit of flaking for a few days, like a chemical peel, then the skin will feel smoother and less oily within a week or so.
